Caribbean Supply Route

Air Transport Command – “Caribbean Supply Route.” The Caribbean Wing operated transport routes to Havana, Nassau, Sixth Air Force Caribbean lend-lease bases, and to Panama and Puerto Rico. The Trinidad and British Guiana bases became major stopping points for transient aircraft, bridging the 2,000 miles that separated Puerto Rico from Belem, Brazil. Other bases built principally for defense, provided emergency landing fields for transient aircraft and were constructed through Pan American Airlines agencies in Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela. Footnotes are from USAF Historical Archives with music by Harry James and his Orchestra, “Stella By Starlight.”
