Canada’s poverty level has been declining in recent years but remains high in many communities across the country. In 2017, 3.4 million Canadians (9.5%) lived below the poverty line. That includes 622,000 children (9%) under the age of 18.
As we approach the 2019 federal election, let us reflect on how political parties will identify a preferential option for those experiencing poverty, particularly when it comes to affordable housing.
